I haven't posted a "
Can't Get Enough" feature in a long while. After reading
The Diary of Anne Frank in middle school, I've been fascinated with this time in history. I must say I'm enjoying my time reading right now. It would be interesting to read about the experiences of African Americans and Japanese Americans during this time too. Hint, Hint, Hint CF authors and publishers.

CeeCee here: I'm mesmerized by this story! The last day of the blog tour is today, so I'm hoping to come back to tell you my final thoughts. You know how I finish the book then never come back to let you know my final thoughts. I hate that! But question: What took me so long to try a Thoene novel??
The Gathering Storm by
Bodie and Brock Thoene is available now from Summerside Press.

In an unassuming apartment building in Brooklyn, New York, three lives intersect as the reality of war invades each aspect of their lives. Young Esther is heartbroken when her father decides to enlist in the army shortly after the death of her mother. Penny Goodrich has been in love with Eddie Shaffer for as long as she can remember; now that Eddie's wife is dead, Penny feels she has been given a second chance and offers to care for his children in the hope that he will finally notice her and marry her after the war. And elderly Mr. Mendel, the landlord, waits for the war to end to hear what has happened to his son trapped in war-torn Hungary. But during the long, endless wait for victory overseas, life on the home front will go from bad to worse. Yet these characters will find themselves growing and changing in ways they never expected--and ultimately discovering truths about God's love...even when He is silent.
CeeCee here: This story is really good! Go ahead and preorder knowing you are in for a good read. I won't review it now, but I will say reading the perspective from the families left behind made this story interesting. P.S. (
added the next day) Mr. Mendel's heartfelt struggle with God and Penny Goodrich's story really made the story. No, no, no. Actually, all the characters, even the ones you meet through letters, make this story memorable. Okay. I just need to go write the review for this book. I can't seem to leave it alone.
