Flashback Friday takes a Ride Down Memory Lane!

This week's flashback revolves around our early driving experiences:

How and when did you learn to drive? Do you have any particular memories associated with getting your driver license? How old were you when you got your first car and what was it? Who paid for it?

When I turned 18, my parents bought me a 1977 Pontiac Lemans. I was proud of that huge metal montrosity, but the kids at my small Christian, let me say that again, CHRISTIAN college made fun of me. Do you really think I cared? I just nicely drove past them with my nose in the air. My real friend got into my car. Pfft, my car had heat to keep me warm, air conditioning to keep me cool, AND the all important radio with AM/FM dial. I was a happy camper. Let me just say up front, my car did not look as good as the one pictured; mine was pretty bad. Oh, btw, when I attended a public university later on, no one gave it a second look. Hmmm.

Join in the fun with my bloggin' buddy at Mocha with Linda!!!

Enjoyed reading this! Private school kids can be such snobs, Christian or not!

Your so right, heat, a/c, and a radio what more did a teenager need.

The car I drove was my family's, but I used the word monstrosity for it, too. Cars were so much bigger then! I liked having more room.

Great story, CeeCee.

My 'first' car was a 1979 Grand Le Mans (a family hand me down)...the first week of college the A/C went out, and the windshield wiper motor went out a little later in the year. (Would you believe my dad is a mechanic?) It did have AM/FM (woohoo) and like yours, it wasn't pretty...but hey, I had 'wheels'! ;)

I went to a Christian college too, and had a similar experience. Can't remember what car I had at that point but it was pretty beat up (I'd already totaled two cars by then) but I didn't care that it was an object of ridicule -- I was just glad to have a car at all!
