Book MYView: Miss Fortune by Sara Mills

They Call Her the P.I. Princess. It's 1947 and Allie Fortune is the only female (and probably the best) private investigator in New York City. Her work is a welcome distraction from her own past and she's just been hired on by a client who isn't telling the whole truth. Mary Gordon's claims of innocence don't fit with her ransacked apartment, being shot at, and the two Soviet agents hot on her trail.Meanwhile the FBI is working the case because a legendary and mysterious treasure has gone missing again. The only catch for Allie is her new "partner" Jack, an attractive, single agent who knows how to make her smile. As Allie and Jack chase after the gold they must contend with the Soviets who also want the priceless treasure back-after all, they stole it fair and square.

My brief comments: Sara Mills characterized Allie Fortune or Miss Fortune to a "T". From Allie's voice, to her look, to the time period... it all worked.  The cover art's a winner too. Just look at her attitude. Doesn't she look the type to say, "Just the facts, ma'am?" She says something similar.Hahaha.

What also worked well is the story started immediately, no huge info dumps into Allie's back story. Don't you just hate wading through boring information when you aren't invested in the story yet? The author waited until I was into the story to tell me about her past. And what's revealed fits into a mysterious sub plot involving her boyfriend who's presumed dead.

There's so much more to rave about , but I've got to run. The second book, Miss Match , is already in stores. Looks like it's going to be my next splurge.

Miss Fortune by Sara Mills was published in 2008 by Moody Publishers. This book satisfies a requirement in the Countdown challenge. This reminds me to sign up for a mystery challenge as well.

It looks and sounds a little noir-ish. I love mysteries with a strong female lead so I'm adding it to my wish list right now :)

I don't care for info dumps...or when authors have to practically introduce you to every character in the book in the first few pages. *argh*

I think the cover totally fits the book as well. Great review, CeeCee...I have this one on my shelf and it sounds like I need to move it closer to the top of my TBR pile. :)
