Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about your bookshelf…With the holiday season now upon us, have you left any hint – subtle or otherwise – for books family and friends might buy you for Christmas? Do you like to receive books, or do you prefer certificates so you can choose your own?
I gave up on hinting long ago. It's no use. I tell them I would be happy to receive a card with a $5 gift certificate to a book store, but I never receive it. I'd rather receive a homemade card than receive a gift that will end up in the back of my closet. I'd also be happy with a gift of Downy, Tide, or paper towels for those who think $5 is too small a gift. Why? I use the products.
Dear Family and Friends, let's exchange useful gifts. Don't waste money!
Every year, I say we shouldn't waste money on useless gifts. Every year I'm ignored. I bet you this year, with money tighter than ever, they will listen. To be honest, we should give gifts to the children and exchange cards with the adults. But they won't listen.
6 Your say:
My husband's side of the family has been giving the adults gift cards and the kids presents for years. It works great!
Love it that you want downey or tide, hey they are expensive and used all the time!
I love GCs....giving as well as receiving!

I have suggested the no adult gift thing for years...but it's a no go.
I read about an idea that every family buys a book and a film that they enjoyed in the last year and then they pass it around to everyone throughout the year. I would love to do this, but no one in my family or husband's family would want to. Maybe when my kids grow up we can start a new tradition.
I'd much rather get a GC than someone to pick out a book for me.
It does seem like over the last few years, I'm okay with not even really getting anything for me. I like to keep the holidays more focused on the kids (mine...nieces & nephews, too), and more for the chance to be together instead the multitude of gifts. I usually give books or games so we can spend our time together over the holidays reading and playing games.
Nice blog. I have same feelings as you have and I would be happy to receive a card with a $5 gift certificate to a book store. Ihampers.co.uk
