Book MYView: Where Do I Go by Neta Jackson

Sometimes you find hope in the last place you look.

Gabrielle Fairbanks has nearly lost touch with the carefree, spirited young woman she was when she married her husband sixteen years ago. But when the couple moves to Chicago to accommodate Philip's ambition, Gabby longs for the chance to find real purpose in her own life.

A chance encounter with a homeless woman suddenly opens a door she never expected. The women of Manna House Women's Shelter need a Program Director--and she has the right credentials. Gabby's in her element, feeling God's call on her life at last, even though Philip doesn't like the changes he sees in her. But she never anticipated his ultimatum: quit your job at the shelter or risk divorce and losing custody of our sons.

In this moment, Gabby's entire foundation shifts. She must find refuge, as in the song they sing at Sunday worship: "Where do I go when there's no one else to turn to . . . I go to the Rock I know that's able, I go to the Rock." (Thomas Nelson, 2009)

My Thoughts: I have to admit: I miss the The Yada Yada women from the previous series. I wanted Jodi to pop up immediately and get me used to this new series. But she doesn't show up to much later in the story and its a good thing too. Neta Jackson does a good job weaning me from the old Yada Yada series so she could tell Gaby's story.

Gaby is an amazing character. After I got over missing the Yada Yadas, I fell into Gaby's own voice and unique story. She's flawed, she's adorable and you root for her the moment she runs barefoot across the sand and into a woman who will change her life.

My jaw fell to the floor at the cliff-hanger ending. Don't have anyone around you as you reach the end. The book might torpedo across the room. I was that angry.

(And don't flip to the end either. You'll ruin a good angry fit. Hey it's cathartic; like a good cry or good laugh!)

I can't wait until Who Do I Talk To? comes out in September. (The jury is still out on how I feel about this cover... I think this cover should be on book one and vice versa. This dress is too prim for how I imagine Gaby to look in book 2. Unless something happened! )

I hadn't started this series as I didn't know if I could live without the Yada Yada's, but now you've got my curiosity piqued, CeeCee. Guess I'll have to get a hold of this one soon.

Hey! Thanks for the great review, Cee Cee, of "Where Do I Go"! Had to laugh at your reaction on the second cover . . . I protested when I saw it! So I think they're trying to come up with a different one before the book actually comes out. This one is too "chick lit" for me. So hang in there, we'll see what the pub does!
