Book MYView: Ralphina, the Roly-Poly Written and Illustrated by Claudia Chandler

About the Book: Ralphina, the roly-poly is sad because she gets lonely in her garden and wants a friend to play with. But she is so small that nobody seems to notice her. With her mommy’s encouragement, Ralphina digs up a clever solution to her loneliness and in the process learns that she has a lot to offer in a friendship. Discover how friendship can make your world blossom in all the colors of the rainbow, and also learn stuff you don’t know about these adorable little garden dwellers. (Claudia Chandler, Leathers Publishing, 2008)

My thoughts: I used to read books to groups of preschoolers. When I showed them a beautiful cover, I would hear a chorus of "oohs and ahhs." I'm embarrassed to say, I sounded like a preschooler when I received this book.

Claudia Chandler’s use of eye-catching colors and uncomplicated drawings will capture and hold a child’s attention. Children will discover new things to discuss with you every time they read the story. They will learn that everyone has a part in making the Earth beautiful and that friendships are found where they least expect them. In the back of the book there is a "Who Knew? Fun Facts About the Roly-poly" and "Fun Facts about Rainbows."

Ralphina, the Roly-Poly would make an excellent addition to a child’s story time.
