MY Thoughts: This Side of Heaven drives home that a person’s worth is found in who they are rather than what they do for a living. A couple in this story learns this fact the hard way. Society thinks highly of the person with the lofty title and shiny toys, without any regard to their character. We do this in our churches too, but I’ll leave that discussion for another day.

Anyway, this story will have you run the emotional gamut. Don't read this book outside because a pivotal part in the story will cause your jaw to drop and not close for a couple of pages. (You wouldn't want a bug to fly in your mouth.)

Seriously, This Side of Heaven is a thought-provoking story that would make a good book club selection. After the story, Karen Kingsbury’s writes a candid note explaining her inspiration behind the story. I think allowing us to learn from her mistake is big of her.
