Blog Tour: Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World is an invitation for every woman who’s ever felt she isn’t godly enough, isn’t loving enough, isn’t doing enough.

The life of a woman today isn’t really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in theNew Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord’s feet…but the daily demands of a busy world just won’t leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him…yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.

Then comes Jesus, into the midst of your busy life, to extend the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters from Bethany. Tenderly, he invites you to choose “the better part”–a joyful life of intimacy with him that flows naturally into loving service.

With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story, Joanna Weaver shows how all of us–Marys and Marthas alike–can draw closer to our Lord: deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.

My take: To be honest, the cover didn't move me to open the book. Yea, I've been in one of THOSE moods for awhile. However, once I started reading I found this is a book I need to spend devotional time exploring. The author uses humor and stories from her own life to offer tips on how to find intimacy with God. I haven't finished reading Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World; but over the next couple of weeks, I hope to use it to make changes in my too busy, often weary life.

This book came right on time.

I agree with you about the cover, CeeCee, although I can't say why. My copy has a different cover.

But what's inside this book is wonderful. Joanna Weaver brings new insight to a familiar story that I thought I knew everything about. I'm just starting chapter 3 and taking it slowly like you.

How about that: we think we've heard it all before until someone comes along to shed a brillant light on the subject.

The cover for me felt a bit dated, so maybe I thought the info was too. I was so wrong!
