Sniff, sniff.
For the Yada prayer sisters, gettin' caught in troubles isn't the problem; it's how to get free. Only weeks ago we Yadas toughened our prayer knees when one of our own was the victim of a vicious, racial attack. now it seems each household is being thrown into even bigger and badder circumstances. It especially worries me, Jodi Baxter, because I'm a fixer by nature, and the prayer list is getting out of control...Ruth and Ben are caught in an unplanned pregnancy-in their fifties! Chanda is deluded by the glitter of her lottery dream come true. Florida wants to move her family, hoping to leave trouble behind, but it looks like it may catch up to her anyway. Avis is torn between honoring her husband and helping her abused adult daughter, who keeps running home to Mama. And I'm finding that even good things like the prayer group can consume me in no time flat. If there is an upside, it's that all this trouble is revealing the subtle lies we Yadas believe about God, ourselves, each other and life. Maybe our best hope is to catch on to what God's doing --and catch on quick!--before the enemy can take any prisoners. That'd be a freedom worth celebrating. And celebrating is what I and my spiritual sisters do best! (Integrity Publishers, 2006)
My reaction: Yes, Neta Jackson is still on a roll! I still find myself checking my spiritual meter along with Jodi with every book! I don't know how the author does it!
What I find fascinating with this series is reading how Jodi spiritually evolves. For instance, in the beginning when someone would state a problem, she would have the proper Christian knee-jerk reaction and say,"Oh, I'll pray for you." And then the next moment, all is forgotten. Now, she stops and actually prays with the person. With this stronger relationship with God, Jodi has also stopped worrying and taking things personally.
The only part I didn't quite understand is how Avis would allow her daughter and grandchild to go into a shelter just because Peter said so. I don't know. Maybe I didn't understand his motivation but it was like the daughter was getting punished for what her abusive husband was doing. To be honest, this plot point wasn't fully developed in this story, hopefully in the next, I will better understand.
Speaking of Yada Yada #6! It is on my TBR pile and it has me really curious! Two beloved members are lost, a HIV scare, and young love breaks up. Hmmm. I gotta get crackin'!
